The Jewish High Holy Days are coming up beginning September 6th, with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. I’m hoping to take this opportunity to begin a series that will discuss much of what I’ve written and preached about this past year. There are many subjects people will bring up from the scriptures, without being able to point to the One subject that the New Testament points to that is presented on many levels. The NEW Covenant is not made up of many subjects but does present itself on many levels. I’ll discuss why these things are not taught today in the church buildings. I hope you’ll take a little time from your day to read the posts.
I know there are congregations, both Jewish and Christian, and some even appear to mix the two, calling themselves Messianic, who focus on the Jewish High Holidays/High Holy Days. My perspective may be quite different than what you normally hear taught. Not that what I’m going to say is not taught; but it is not too common today.
Of all the High Holy Days, I want to focus primarily on the second, which is called Yom Kippur, that begins on Wednesday, September 15, and ends at nightfall on Thursday, September 16.
I’ll explain it all as we go. I’ve desired to write on certain aspects of this for months now, but each time I begin, I realize there needs to be groundwork from the scripture before going into the deeper things the Book of Hebrews calls the Meat of the Word. I believe this time, the time of the Jewish High Holidays, as they put it, is a perfect time to get into the things I’ve been talking about.
Here is a list of the main Jewish Holidays throughout the month of September:
