Is Jesus enough? This may sound like a strange question, but it matters how you answer. Does your life exhibit your answer?
Jesus is the All Sufficient One. All we need, we find in Him alone, according to the Holy Bible. He has fulfilled ALL the requirements of the Law. All we read from the Torah, all the Law given by God, had to do with the fulling purposes of God in His Son Jesus, the Messiah. And, finally, in the end of His Holy Life, having fulfilled His Holy Purpose, He cried out, IT IS FINISHED! He accomplished all the Father had given Him to do. In Him is LIFE! In Him is all sufficiency for all of life! In Him!
It is a sad thing we see today that Christians do not seem to know Jesus in this way, that He is the All Sufficient One. Why do I say this? Some may agree in that some Christians tend to forget to trust Him about this, or that. Some may be given to worry, fretting, and so on. But that’s not what I mean. Christians today, forget that Jesus is the All Sufficient One by showing, in their actions, in what they give attention to, that they are so willing to look elsewhere for help, understanding, knowledge, experience, inspiration, other than the Person of Jesus Christ Himself, as He is presented by God through Holy Men of God, in the New Testament.
Many, I am certain, will find offense in some of what I write in this post. I hope you will at least read the post in its entirety, to see if, once read, you still are offended with me. Thank you.
Christians today seem to look for what is called by some as “outpourings”, or a “move of God, or “revivals”, even using the term “crusade”. People today are always looking for something new, fresh, even appealing. Some will establish themselves as special, God inspired, God anointed “revivalists/evangelist/crusaders/teachers”, ministers of a new “move of God”, an “outpouring” of the Holy Spirit, or a “Holy Fire”, etc. Throughout the last few centuries, there have been multiple events that are self-described as some type of revival or evangelistic crusade. Some speak with great swelling words, talking about a MOVE of God, that you just need to know about, and experience, and support… of course. In such cases, those who lead in these things, will talk about what God is saying to the Church, or what God may be saying to an individual, or maybe even a new, strong, powerful way to reach the lost for Jesus. In these “moves”, there always is required a type of gimmick to sell. For instance, healing, prophecy, prosperity, etc. They will continually offer something NEW, FRESH, MODERN, UP TO DATE! To keep you coming back for more, and more, and more! I think the most appealing of all is something that is NEW, or at least perceived as new; new knowledge, new understanding, new breakthrough, new gifts, new anointing, new insight, new expression, a new touch from God, new, powerful, dynamic worship service! Oh, the list is endless. The number one common thing they all have with each other is this… every “move”, every crusade, every revival, is temporary, they all come to an end. Just like the Jewish Feasts, they must be regenerated up again, year after year, decade after decade, generation after generation, century after century. The reason for this is simply, they are looking in the wrong place, with the wrong heart, the wrong motive. Again and again coming back around to the same old need…. Repentance.
The problem with all of this, is the fact that it is all a direct affront to the Work of Jesus Christ, in His teaching, His accomplishment, His commission to those He left behind.
Is Jesus all sufficient? Some say so, but only in word. You can see this, especially in this modern generation, where the new ( a few decades old now) expression is that of being enamored with Jewish Holidays. I’ve listened to, and read, many Messianic Rabbi’s talking about the importance of understanding the Jewish High Holy Days, as if this new understanding for the Gentile Church will enhance, even deepen, our understanding of God, Jesus, Prophecy, and so on. It is a way to become more “rooted” in our faith, etc., by finding, discovering, our Hebrew Roots. I am amazed at people in the Church buildings, who quickly lay aside the New Testament, and follow these teachers away. As if the Gospels and the Epistles of the New Testament, the very teaching of Jesus Himself, and His own Apostles whom He chose, taught, commissioned, was not enough! No, but now we need, for further insight, instruction, enlightening, deepening, the Jewish Feasts of which there is no teaching by either Jesus Himself, or His Apostles, let alone a mention.
Why do you suppose there is no teaching on the Jewish Feasts in the New Testament? Simply, it is because those things are inferior to what we have in the New Testament. Plain and simple. Those feasts were for a sinful, rebellious people who habitually gave themselves over to Idolatry, not for the use by the Saints of God in Jesus. Did you know you were called to be Saints (1 Cor. 1:2 NKJV)? The Feasts of Israel were put in place to constantly remind the Children of Israel to REPENT! This is not the message for the Saints of God, who have ALREADY REPENTED of sin. Or else, they wouldn’t be the Saints of God. Our commission is not to preach to ourselves to repent, as Rosh Hashanah would suggest! We are to preach repentance to SINNERS! We are to preach the Gospel, not to ourselves, but to a lost and dying world, lost in sin. Yet, sadly, this message of repentance is necessary, even for the modern day, bible toting, revival chasing, feast keeping, sinning Christian Churches, who are Christian only in name, nominal. If you are yet in sin, your proclamation of being a Christian is a lukewarm statement at best. Let it be understood, what we have today as Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and all the rest, is passed down, not from the Torah, not from Leviticus, but from Talmudic tradition of the Rabbis. Your feast keeping comes from the same ‘form’ of righteousness as those Pharisees that Jesus addresses in Matt. 5:20.
The Children of Israel were recipients of the greatest impartation of the knowledge of God known to man, up to the coming of their own Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. They were recipients of the greatest move of God upon the face of the whole earth, from the days of Noah to the days of the Messiah. After 400 years of being ruthlessly enslaved by an unbreakable, unbeatable power called Egypt, God moved on their behalf, and shattered the great strength of this mighty foe, Egypt, and drowned them all under the waters of the Red Sea. He led His people out of slavery, out of bondage, and right into an endless desert. Their deliverance from severe external slavery led to decades of desert wandering deliverance from the internal slavery of sin, a greater foe than Egypt ever was. And, as history tells us in the Tanakh, the Children of Israel never did learn their lesson, even after entering the “Promised Land”. As we read about, continually did they go back to Egypt in their hearts and minds, continually did they go back to their idols, their sins. We would have none of the prophets in the Bible, not even one, if not for this fact, proven time and time again. The only thing that would deliver the Children of Israel from the power of sin, the power of slavery, is the knowledge of God, in the person of their Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus is ALL SUFFICIENT!
While there are so many examples to choose from in the New Testament to show the extent of the departure from the teaching of Jesus today, I want to choose one that I think may be most familiar. This example will show how far the Church today is missing the mark, by following, with their itching ears, so many false teachers.
In the three synoptic Gospels we have been given a scene in the Life of Jesus, where a young man, a ruler among the people, with great wealth, running up to Jesus and kneeling before Him (according to Mark) asking him about eternal life.
Please take great notice in the way Jesus responds to this young man. We are here, given an example of sharing the Gospel, and yet, so few today ever hear the Gospel preached in this way that Jesus Himself does. In fact, today we are hearing almost the exact opposite. People are too afraid of sharing the true Gospel because they themselves are afraid of the Gospel, and themselves reject it openly, although they believe they have eternal life. This is indeed the secret to why the Church is so very weak in our generation. Therefore, evil triumphs, even though there exists in this Country of ours, what is termed MEGA Churches. Just as the Jewish Temple from the days of Jeremiah, was without the presence of the Ark of the Covenant, so it is today, that the Mega church generation is without the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As went the Galatian Church, so goes the Modern-day Church.
“17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.”
How are you doing with the Gospel of Jesus, as it is preached by Jesus Himself?
Herein lies the power of God, herein lies the difference between the man-made, self-serving gospel preached, and the Gospel according to Jesus. Do you see a difference in your own expression of the Gospel? It would be hard to ascribe a seeker friendly approach to the Gospel of Jesus.
If we are to believe that Jesus is the Way, we must then believe/accept that He indeed KNOWS the Way, right? The New Testament pages are filled with the Knowledge of The Way. They are indeed extreme, especially in a sin filled world, especially in sin filled Church buildings. But in this Gospel, there is great power! Enough Power that can overcome the Evil One in our lives! If your gospel is weak, your “overcoming” is weak, spiritually anemic, powerless against sin. A fit description for the Church today in this ever-increasing God-less society. This generation, oh how woeful a thing this is, this generation, the modern society, all around the world, is described in terms of being post-Christian. If that doesn’t rip your heart in two….
The only power that comes from God comes from God in obedience to His Word. There is nothing we are still in need of from God, He has provided it all in His Son, who cried out, “IT IS FINISHED! We are not in need of a new move, a revival, a prophecy! All we are in need of, is obedience to His Word ALREADY given! We don’t need a deeper understanding by paying attention to rituals, traditions, and so on. What we need is to obey Jesus according to His Word.
The problem is not that we don’t have the life, that it’s not available, no, it’s that we don’t want the life.
Since Jesus already fulfilled the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms concerning Him, we do not need anything else to know Him, obey Him, understand Him, be conformed into His Image, preach Him, Teach Him! Many today forget what prophecy all is about. It’s as if they have never read the Prophets of the Old Testament. This one verse in the book of the Revelation, 19:10, explains all prophecy. “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” And yet, everything but this testimony is used as prophecy today. My friends, Jesus is ALL in ALL! HE IS EVERYTHING!
I wanted to say a few words concerning the Gospel of Jesus. Many stumble at His Words. Many, that is, most, turn away from Him at this point. I’ve heard some argue that they themselves are not rich, how can I sell all? Does it mean me too? I want to give an explanation that I hope will help many. If you will read the above Gospel of Jesus carefully, He addresses not an income, though elsewhere there are certain things taught by Paul concerning even that. But Jesus was not addressing income as a condition for Salvation/Eternal Life. Being rich or poor matters not. He was addressing the withholding, not the income itself. Withholding wealth, hording, will keep you from entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Some trust in gold, so they bury their wealth in gold. Some bury it in CD’s, Bonds, real estate, whatever else. It is basically impossible to obey the Gospel while withholding wealth. Learn to be a cheerful giver. Did you know you can have a large income, and still walk with Jesus in His Way? Yes, you can do it! You just need to obey Him, follow Him, do what He says to do, and you will enter into Eternal Life. This is what its all about! You don’t have to go here and there, run to and fro, listen to this one and that one! All you need, my dear friends, is to deny yourself, as Jesus said, take up your cross, and follow Him. Oh the riches, unfathomable riches, that are found in the Person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Blessed Redeemer. Oh, how I wish He was obeyed! He is not obeyed, however. He is rejected for another Gospel that allows you to basically do what you want. Do you want to see the Church powerful, adorned is purity, holiness, righteousness, at the coming of the Lord Jesus? Then learn to obey Him, that’s the answer. That’s where the power comes from. Amen! Jesus said, Matt. 7:13,14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Yes, my friends, the way is narrow, it is difficult, few find it. Will you be one who will say yes to Jesus? Will you obey Him? Will you walk with Him, by doing what He has commanded us to do? You don’t need any other revelation! You do not need any other experience, or understanding, or deeper anything. You need to obey Jesus as He is given to us in the Word of God, the New Testament.
The teaching of the old covenant feasts would be out of place, and inappropriate in the New Testament context. That is why they are not taught, not even mentioned. Tithe also, is out of place, and inappropriate for the New Testament. Maybe we’ll get to that later. But rather, my dear friends, keep your focus on Jesus. Learn of Him and be blessed!
I wanted to clarify something before I finish. This selling all in the Gospel of Jesus has nothing at all to do with what is being taught in the Church buildings about Old Covenant Tithe. There is no place for any of this type teaching, whether traditions of elders, Levitical sacrificial system, nor tithing to that system. Pastors today are not Levites. The Church buildings are NOT houses of God, as I hear constantly from these false preachers. There is something New taught in the New Testament. YOU! You are the house of God! You are the Temple of God! You are the dwelling place of the Most High! Not buildings. We are not to withhold wealth for buildings… what a shameful thing it is. These false ministers are not telling the truth on this, and withholding the wealth for themselves, a most egregious sin. Don’t let modern day pastors and teachers’ tell you that tithe is what it’s all about. Oh no it isn’t. It is about ALL, not 10%. There is such a profound ignorance regarding these things. The Truth has not been taught; the Gospel has not been preached. This would require a whole new teaching time, whereas this writing is not meant to break down the false teaching of the tithe.
Jesus says in Revelation 3:12,
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.”
Don’t reject Jesus today. Learn to obey Him.
